Description:

This workshop introduces participants to the basic features of Microsoft Word.  Participants will learn the screen layout, how to perform basic editing and formatting functions, and how to use simple proofreading tools to check for spelling and grammatical errors.

Target Audience:

This workshop is designed for people who have little to no experience with word processing software.


Prerequisites:

None.

Length:

5 hours; can be adjusted to meet the needs of the workshop sponsor.

Computer lab with projection screen for instructor's workstation.

  • Enter text to create a new document.
  • Use basic editing techniques to modify documents.
  • Use basic formatting options including tabs, indents, margins, bold, underline, italics, and fonts to improve the appearance of a document.
  • Save documents.
  • Use Spelling and QuickCorrect to proofread documents.
  • Print documents.
  • Use Help to learn more about the features of Word.
  • Exit Word.
